Assembly George Square Studios: Five – 2nd-27th August
Andrew Ryan’s quintessential Irish charm and cheeky irreverence has made him one of the most exciting stand-up talents in recent years, playing at the biggest comedy clubs across the UK & Ireland with his observational humour and lively storytelling. He will be bringing his brand-new show Did you get here alright? to Assembly George Square Studios 5 from the 2nd-27th August at 6.45pm.
The show will see Irishman Andrew trying to conquer love, life, politics, insecurity, fear and living alone, all while he’s an immigrant in a country where somebody recently told him to ‘go home’. Andrew has found the answer. It is not what he expected.
Andrew has become a consistent highlight of the Edinburgh Fringe line-up, debuting in 2012 with his critically acclaimed show Ryanopoly. His 2016 show Ruined, in which he reflected on his self-destructive personality, and his 2015 show Perfectly Inadequate, which saw him coming to grips with his many imperfections in one hilarious hour, have demonstrated a vulnerability and edge that compliments his charismatic, affable personality. His new show, Did You Get Here Alright?, promises to be another memorable exploration of himself warts n’ all that’s bound to put a smile on your face.
When Andrew was 14, he wanted to be a firefighter or a comedian. Lucky for us, he was rejected from the fire brigade and fired from his job as a private investigator when he was 18. He started his stand-up career in 2008 with a spontaneous performance at an open mic contest. Nine years later, he is a highly sought after comic with appearances in festivals, TV and radio. He was nominated for Best New Show at the 2015 Leicester Comedy Festival. You may have seen Andrew performing on Russell Howard’s Good News, Comedy Central At The Comedy Store and BBC Three’s Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live as well as Simon Fielder’s online series Die Trying, Alex Zane’s Funny Rotten Scoundrels and Live for MIND. He is the star of BBC1 NI’s The Blame Game, and has been a regular guest on BBC Radio Manchester and MUTV, and starred in the video Chelsea Fans Claim To Know About Players That Don’t Exist by TalkSport that went viral with nearly 1.5 million views on YouTube.
