The Vanity Project
Gilded Balloon Counting House: 3rd – 28th August
Angus Dunican uploads The Vanity Project to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2016, performing live from the Gilded Balloon Counting House from the 3rd to the 28th August. (Not 15th)
While collecting stories to eulogize the best liar he ever met, Angus realizes that, despite our cultural obsession with authenticity, we all present different versions of ourselves depending on the company we’re in. In The Vanity Project, he examines how our friends can accept or reject our attempts to project ourselves how we choose, how social and monetary pressure makes weddings more stressful than funerals, and how humans persist in having a sense of self-importance despite overwhelming evidence that they’re nothing of the sort. This playful take on the myths and relationships we build throughout our adulthood covers everything from the potential isolation of atheism to the inconvenience of having your clothes stolen.
Angus hails from the south-east of England and began doing stand-up when he was nineteen, before training as an actor at Goldsmiths College, London. As if being a stand-up comedian and an actor weren’t enough, Angus is also a writer, an improviser, an impressionist and an occasional puppeteer.
Angus’s stand-up has gained the attention of audiences, critics, and prize committees alike. He was a finalist in the Amused Moose Laugh-Off Final in 2013, a show that has helped to launch the careers of acts like Jack Whitehall and Sarah Millican; he was also a finalist in the Hobgoblin New Act 2015 and Leicester Square New Comedian 2015.
