Ari Shaffir: Jew

Heroes @ The Hive – 2nd- 26th August (not 13th) – 6pm

After turning his last Edinburgh Festival Fringe show into a Netflix special, Ari Shaffir returns with his new show Jew at Heroes @ The Hive.

Ever wanted to question your own religious leader? Well Ari does just that by questioning all the things rabbis never wanted him to. Like, who were the real bad guys in Sodom and Gomorrah? Why do Hassidim dress like Johnny Cash fans? Who did Adam fuck before Eve? It’s a UK festival style show with the laughs of an American hour.

The New York native grew up Orthodox Jewish, spent 2 years in a yeshiva in Israel, and came back to America to lose his religion and become a comic. Was it a good idea?

Since then, Ari has released two Netflix specials called Double Negative, finished three seasons as host and co-creator of Comedy Central’s storytelling series This is Not Happening, been a regular guest on TBS’s Conan and co-starred with Zach Galifianakis, Gal Gadot and Jon Hamm in Keeping Up With The Joneses. He has also released two hour-long stand-up specials on Comedy Central (Paid Regular and Passive Aggressive) and Revenge for the Holocaust, his stand-up album which went to number 1 on both the iTunes charts and the week it was released.

Shaffir hosts one the most consistently top-rated podcasts on iTunes, Skeptic Tank, which averages over 100,000 downloads per week. Chatting with everyone from parents, to comedians to prostitutes, Shaffir says he does this “to help better understand humanity and also to make fart jokes”. He is also part of the Punch Drunk Podcast, where he joins forces with Sam Tripoli and Jayson Thibault to chat all things sports.

He also continues to play to sold-out crowds across the world including Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, SXSW and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Yep, it was definitely a great idea.
