After a meteoric year of performing up and down the country, returning favourite, Bethany Black, returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with her brand-new and startlingly honest autobiographical show Unwinnable.
Bethany Black returns and this time it’s personal.
Okay, it’s always personal but this time even more so. In 2018, Bethany was diagnosed with autism and agoraphobia. Her new show Unwinnable is about accepting the outcome of what she always knew deep down.
In this hour-long tour-de-force Bethany explores a personal journey with mental-illness, the freedom of diagnoses, and the prejudices one woman faces in coming to terms with her ailments in a world where she must always be at the top of her game.
Bethany starred in Russell T. Davies’ Cucumber-Bannana-Tofu trilogy on Channel 4 and E4, becoming the first openly transgender actress to star as a trans character on UK television and the first on US broadcast television. Following on from this she played the role of 474 in the ninth series of legendary BBC show Doctor Who before going on to recently film in the role of Pochantas for Channel 4’s No Offence which will TX in 2018. She is a former finalist in the Chortle Student Comedy Awards and was nominated for Best Debut at the 2008 Leicester Comedy Festival.
2018 has also seen Black put on the Daily Star’s list of celebrities flying the flag for the LGBT community and consider her a role model.
