Underbelly Buttercup: 1st – 26th August: 5.15pm

Amused Moose Comedy Award – People’s Champion 2017
Three Weeks Editors’ Award 2017

Multi-award winning comedian Ian Smith brings his new show Craft to the Underbelly from the 1st – 26th August.

Ian returns with his fifth Edinburgh Fringe show to shout about confidence and companionship. The show will also feature, at long last, origami! Basically – when Ian was developing the show, there was a mistake with the sub-categories it was listed under, and now he is wholeheartedly incorporating them all. Come and see how he manages to make everything relevant.

Since starting at a young age, Ian has developed a reputation as an exciting, creative comic. Mixing conversational, energetic storytelling and observations with unique set pieces and an exceptional skill for improvisation – Ian is a regular at the biggest comedy clubs in the UK.

In 2013, his debut Edinburgh Fringe show, Anything, gained critical acclaim and a run at Soho Theatre. His 2014 follow up, Flappable, again received rave reviews and played to sell-out crowds. In 2015, his third show, Whereabouts, received a plethora of 4 and 5 star reviews, a nomination for the Amused Moose Comedy Award and a date at Soho Theatre. He was also part of the hugely successful, Chortle Award nominated, Richard Gadd – Waiting for Gaddot. His 2017 show, Snowflake, was his most successful yet – selling out, garnering critical praise and winning both the Amused Moose Comedy Award (People’s Champion) and a Three Weeks Editors’ Award. He was then invited to perform the show at this year’s New Zealand Comedy Festival.

Ian has performed stand-up on BBC Three at the Fringe, appeared on BBC3 panel show Sweat the Small Stuff and Channel 5’s The Funny Thing About… as well as writing for The News Quiz and The Now Show (BBC Radio 4).

Alongside his stand-up career, Ian has worked on various TV projects – starting off as a lead in BBC2 sitcom Popatron, and award-winning short film, Bonsai. He has gone on to star alongside Katherine Parkinson in Sky comedy Officially Special and have a leading role in major BBC1 drama The Ark, starring David Threlfall. He has also appeared in improvised feature films, Benny and Jolene, A Wonderful Christmas Time and the forthcoming, Songbird. Ian has also written and starred in his own “smartly and tightly written” (Chortle) web series, Hope You Come Up Here, produced by Turtle Canyon.

He is also one third of iTunes top-charting podcast, The Magic Sponge, alongside Rob Beckett, and presents on The Football Republic and FullTimeDevils – two YouTube channels with over 800,000 subscribers, where his videos have reached over 1 million views.
