Don’t Worry They’re Here
Pleasance Queen Dome: 1st – 12th August: 8.20pm
Best Show & Best Newcomer Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner
The only winner of both the Best Show and Best Newcomer Edinburgh Comedy Awards, John Kearns brings his 2017 critically acclaimed sell-out back to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August for a limited run only.
Don’t Worry They’re Here is a comic, heart-warming monologue directed by (Olivier Award winner) Jon Brittain that highlights the absurdities of the ordinary. This is a stand-up routine of someone who has the everyday worries of the common man in a small world, but who is unusually insistent in expressing them. Rooted in the seemingly mundane conversations with his local cafe owner and a story about a bet he placed at the bookies, Kearns springboards from the minutiae in British culture into an exploration of universal fears and human emotion.
With a show that travels from a massage parlour, to a supermarket check-out and then to a horse racing track, this comedy tour de force, is an emotional yet hilarious story that highlights the fragility and absurdity of life.
John enjoyed another magnificent sold-out run at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where he thrilled audiences at Monkey Barrel throughout August. Don’t Worry They’re Here transferred to the West End for a two-week run at Soho Theatre, before embarking on a UK tour and playing to packed out houses at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Don’t Worry They’re Here was nominated for Best Show at the 2018 Chortle Awards. See it this Fringe or regret missing out on this bold, funny and thought-provoking show from one of the UK’s top performers.
He has previously appeared on BBC’s Top Coppers, Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Dave’s Drunk History, ITV’s Harry Hill’s Alien Fun Capsule and Harry Hill’s Tea Time, ITV2’s @Elevenish and is the star in his own BBC Radio 4 series.
What the press have said about John Kearns:
“Kearns goes to places stand-up rarely goes. If you appreciate intellectually ambitious humour as well as Live at the Apollo hilarity go and see him. If you have a heart you will laugh and be moved. You can bet your shirt on it.”
