At The Pleasance, London from the 9th to 11th and 13th March
Following a sell-out run in Edinburgh 2014, Mark Watson’s Comedywealth Games returns to the Pleasance, London from the 9th to 11th March with a grand finale on the 13th March.
Mark Watson’s Comedywealth Games were inspired by a certain real-life sporting event in Glasgow but for legal reasons never officially connected to it. They saw a number of high-profile comedians, representing ten different countries, battle it out in events such as “The Unavoidably Close Sack Race”, “Fruit-Throwing” and “The Admin Pentathlon” under the hyperactive eye of ringmaster Mark Watson, whose stupid idea it all was.
Now, Watson and his team bring Edinburgh’s silliest, most chaotic, and most alarming-from-an-insurance-point-of-view funfest to London. Once again there will be questionable sporting gear, feverish levels of enthusiasm, races, injuries, mashed fruit on the floor, and punishing organisational tasks. This time around there will be even bigger names doing even more unwise things. Watson will excitably shout a lot. Things will definitely get spilled.
Mark is one of the most celebrated comedians on the UK circuit, he has been nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2005 Perrier Awards, won the Panel Prize at the 2006 If.comedie Awards, as well as being nominated for a Barry Award at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and winning the Time Out Critics Choice Award in 2006.
Mark has recently hosted Road To Rio on Dave TV with Henning Wenn. His other TV credits include co-hosting BBC 4’s We Need Answers alongside Tim Key. Mark has also regularly appeared on BBC 2’s Never Mind The Buzzcocks, BBC 2’s Mock the Week, BBC 1’s Would I Lie To You, BBC 1’s Have I Got News For You and Dave’s Argumental. He has also performed stand-up on BBC 1’s Live At The Apollo and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow as well as Channel 4’s Comedy Gala.
Mark’s radio credits include his recent BBC Radio 4 series Mark Watson Talks A Bit About Life, the latest incarnation of cult series Mark Watson Makes The World Substantially Better, 100 Million or Bust on BBC Radio 5 Live and Mark Watson’s Live Address To The Nation on BBC Radio 4. He has also made regular appearances on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Fighting Talk.
Mark is also a successful author having written five novels to date, Bullet Points, Light-hearted Look At Murder, Eleven, The Knot and most recently Hotel Alpha. Following his efforts to halve his carbon footprint, he also wrote the book Crap At The Environment.
