Melbourne International Comedy Festival – Best Newcomer Nominee 2018
Billy T Award Nominee 2017

Reach for the sky! Paul Williams is coming to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with his new show Santa Fe this August.

New Zealander Paul Williams will be taking audiences back to 1882, Santa Fe, New Mexico where he’ll be dealing in hilarity rather than lead, friend. Holstering jokes, songs and stories, Paul will be fulfilling his dreams of being in a Western and he’ll be taking the Fringe with him.

Paul started performing stand-up comedy in 2013 while at university in Wellington. In 2016, he played a supporting role in Rose Matafeo’s show Finally Dead and in 2017, he performed his first solo show Summertime Love which was nominated for the Billy T Award in his native New Zealand, which has previously also been lost by Rhys Darby. Summertime Love was also performed at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival where Paul was nominated for Best Newcomer.

Paul also has a flourishing serious music career. After starting out by doing parody rap videos about his hometown Nelson, Paul released his debut EP Jungle River Adventure in 2015. At the launch, Lorde gave him $20 for it (Paul tried to give back the money) and then proclaimed in a radio interview that Paul was her favourite musician. Definite proof that he is on the right track. 2018 saw the release of his debut album, Surf Music, which James Acaster rates highly saying ““I can’t stop listening to it… Can’t say enough good things about it”. It also features the guitar playing prowess of Nish Kumar. It is available online at:
