PizzaExpress Live Presents
Ann Hampton Calloway, Amanda McBroom and Michele Brourman

from 14th to 16th June 2018

PizzaExpress Live are excited to welcome back to London, three leading female voices – jazz great Ann Hampton Calloway, cabaret star, Amanda McBroom and multi-talented pianist and songwriter, Michele Brourman.

They will each perform on separate dates at one of the main London PizzaExpress venues from 14th – 18th June 2018, whilst Ann Hampton Calloway and Amanda McBroom will also join forces for a sumptuous, double act evening featuring everything from classics to sultry jazz from 16th – 18th June at The Pheasantry in Chelsea. Set to be a tour de force event, McBroom is a witty, emotional lyricist best known for penning the Bette Midler hit, The Rose, whilst Calloway is a Tony Award nominee.

Influenced by the tastes and passions of its original founder Peter Boizot, a jazz lover who sought to introduce live music into his restaurants since their inception in the late 60’s to the first ticketed event in May ’76, there has been an impressive range of performances over the years. Internationally acclaimed acts who have graced the monochrome floor, include Sting, Cybil Sheppard, Molly Ringwald, Bill Wyman, Bonnie Langford, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Brian May, Gregory Porter, Bud Freeman, Monty Alexander, Rick Wakeman, Milt Hinton, Van Morrison, Melody Gardot, Jamie Cullum, Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse.

Curating 3,000 plus events a year (1,500 ticketed shows) across 5 flagship PizzaExpress, the Holborn location (opened in August 2017) becomes London’s newest live venue. Already attracting a varied list of talent across past and present generations from Jessie Ware, Martin Kemp to the Cast of Les Miserables and comedians Harry Hill and Josh Widdecombe.

Amanda McBroom is one of the most popular and well-loved artists. Renowned for her magical blend of personal anecdotes, humour and songs by highly acclaimed songwriters as well as some of her own well-known, self-penned numbers including, The Rose, which was an international hit for Bette Midler. Her talent for witty, profound and emotionally charged song writing sets her apart from her from her contemporaries and makes this a residency not to be missed.

Ann Hampton Callaway is not only a gifted singer-songwriter and Tony Award-nominee, but she is also an acclaimed actress, having won the Theatre World Award and received a Tony nomination for her starring role in the Broadway musical Swing and made her Hollywood screen debut in Robert de Niro’s The Good Shepherd. She has written over 250 songs, including two Platinum Award winning hits for Barbra Streisand and the theme for the hit TV series The Nanny.

Michele Brourman is an award-winning singer/songwriter whose best-known song, My Favourite Year has been recorded by Michael Feinstein, Margaret Whiting, Dame Cleo Laine and many more. With lyricist Amanda McBroom, she’s written the songs for 18 animated features for Universal Studios, including the beloved Land Before Time series, writing for artists like Reba McIntyre, Michael York, David Carradine, Jodi Benson, Olivia Newton-John, Donny Osmond, Corbin Bleu and a host of others. Her work has been featured in television and film and performed by countless cabaret artists, garnering numerous awards and critical acclaim.

What the press have said about Amanda McBroom and Ann Hampton Callaway:

“Amanda is probably one of the greatest night club performers of all time. Her lyrics are profound and express human emotions in glorious poetry. Her humour is so smart and she sings and acts it all brilliantly.” Broadway World

“I once described the phenomenal Ann Hampton Callaway’s position in the tenuous world of girl singers as that of a silver Bentley in a parking lot full of second-hand Hondas. Watching her electrify a jaded audience in her current show, I now amend that opinion: She owns the whole damned block.” Rex Reed, New York Observer

“Amanda McBroom’s show is the real grown-up fare. A true cabaret original… Her own compositions, ‘Errol Flynn’ and ‘The Rose’, are bewitching, as is Michele Brourman’s beautifully understated piano playing. Their residency… is simply unmissable.” The Times

“For sheer vocal beauty, no contemporary singer matches Ms. Callaway.” The New York Times

“Ms. Callaway is gifted with an amazing low voice, a miraculous level of musicianship, ears that can hear around corners, a gift for both arranging familiar standards and composing new ones, all of which works hand-in-hand with her sense of humour.” The Wall Street Journal
